What your trade-in is worth on Long Island

Most people find out what their car is worth by sitting at a dealership while someone walks around it with a clipboard, and the number that comes back is the one that suits the deal in front of them. An appraisal should work the other way round: value the car first, on its own merits, then decide what to do with it.

How we value your car

We appraise through the same wholesale channels dealers use — auction results for your year, make, model, trim and mileage in this region, adjusted for condition, options and history. That is the number a dealer works from as well, which is why we are willing to show you ours.

Positive and negative equity, explained

Equity is the gap between what your car is worth and what you still owe on it. If the value is higher, that difference is yours and goes straight toward your next lease. If the payoff is higher, that shortfall has to be settled or rolled into the new payment, which raises it. Either way you see the two numbers before you commit to anything.

Trading in a leased car

A leased vehicle can carry equity too. The buyout figure was fixed at the start of your term, so if the car is worth more than that today there is money in it. Values move constantly, so it is worth checking rather than assuming.

What raises and lowers the number

  • Mileage — the single biggest factor after year and model.
  • Condition — panel damage, curbed wheels, tyre tread, warning lights.
  • History — accident records and title branding.
  • Options — factory packages generally help; aftermarket parts usually do not.
  • Service records — a documented history is worth real money at auction.

Where we appraise and collect

Long Island is home. We are based in Ronkonkoma, in Suffolk County, and most appraisals and collections happen across Nassau County and Suffolk County — Hauppauge, Huntington, Islip, Smithtown, Babylon, Hicksville, Massapequa, Garden City and Hempstead. We also cover New York City, Westchester, New Jersey and Connecticut, and we collect your car on the same visit as we deliver the next one.

Trade-in questions

How much does a trade-in appraisal cost?

Nothing. It is free and carries no obligation — you are not committing to lease anything by finding out what your car is worth.

How is my trade-in value worked out?

Through the same wholesale channels dealers use: auction data for your year, make, model, trim and mileage in this region, adjusted for condition and options.

Can I trade in a car I still owe money on?

Yes. If the car is worth more than the payoff, that equity goes toward your next vehicle. If the payoff is higher, the difference is settled or rolled into the new payment — and you see which before you commit.

Can I trade in a leased car?

Often, yes. A lease can carry equity if the car is worth more than the buyout fixed at the start of your term. We check both figures and tell you whether there is anything in it.

Do I have to lease from you to get an appraisal?

No. The appraisal itself is free and carries no obligation. What happens after that depends on the vehicle and your situation, and a specialist will talk it through once you have the number.

Do you collect the car?

Yes, on the same visit as we deliver your next vehicle, anywhere across Long Island, NYC, New Jersey and Connecticut.

What do I need for an appraisal?

Year, make, model and rough mileage is enough to start. The VIN and your payoff figure make the number more precise, but neither is required.
